On January 9th, Atlanta Diaper Relief had the honor of presenting a Powerpoint presentation about Diaper Need and the issues moms face when they can’t afford diapers to the Senior Leadership Team at Bright from the Start (BFTS) — the very agency responsible for monitoring and licensing some 10,000 daycares and home-based centers in the state of Georgia. The agency also oversees the lottery-funded Georgia Pre-K program.
I met Commissioner Cagle at the United Way’s Women Leadership Council meeting. I approached him, told him about the work we are doing in the community and he invited me to speak with his team to further elaborate and share information about our mission.
Board Member Jennifer Hutchesen attendedas well and it was a true honor to meet the Commissioner’s esteemed team members and to bring awareness about Diaper Need and to explain facts and figures about how this diaper need affects Georgia’s families and access to childcare.
At the conclusion of the meeting, members stated that our organization has their support and the Commissioner vowed to have the agency throw a diaper drive. Which of course would be huge. The Commissioner also put us in touch with key members who would help us get the word out about our work.
In the coming weeks I am sure I will have much more to report about what has evolved from this ground-breaking meeting with these state leaders.
Thank you to Commissioner Cagle and his whole team for granting us this wonderful opportunity. The more people who know we exist, the more people we can help.
